All northbound lanes of Interstate 65 are shut down near mile marker 283 in the Warrior area after a wreck Monday morning. Mile 283 is one mile south of the Hayden/Corner exit, Exit 284.
“All northbound lanes of Interstate 65 are completely shut down in the Warrior area,” the alert said. “Motorists traveling northbound must use an alternate route. Drivers should expect significant delays and plan accordingly.”
UPDATE (10:00 a.m.): The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says a multi-vehicle crash at about 5:35 a.m. Monday caused the closure. All northbound lanes near mile marker 283 in Jefferson County are blocked for an undetermined amount of time, and northbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 282. Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are on scene investigating and will provide updates.
UPDATE (11:10 a.m.): One northbound lane has reopened, but traffic is still backed up in several places. Blount County Commissioner Allen Armstrong, District 1, said Highway 160 was backed up close to the Exit 284 interchange and that northbound I-65 was at a standstill for several miles back from the closure at Exit 282. He later said Stouts Road and Skyline Drive were still blocked, as Lt. Ron Chastain had informed him.
UPDATE (11:50 a.m.): All northbound lanes of Interstate 65 are open again.
