George Powell served as Blount County’s own surveyor for forty years and wrote the 1855 “History of Blount County” - the single most important primary source behind this site’s own History research. He worked in cooperation with Michael Tuomey, Alabama’s first State Geologist, whose survey covered Blount County among six others.
