History Glossary

Capt. George McPherson

Person

Born 1 January 1784, died 1869 - buried at Stewart’s Chapel Cemetery alongside his wife, Nancy Ann Kincheloe McPherson (1785-1873). His “Veteran” mark reflects militia rank, likely War of 1812-era given his birth year. Six children are documented, buried across at least two other cemeteries, including Henry McPherson (1828-1883), buried at the unnamed Smoke Rise cemetery, and America McPherson Sanders (1826-1896), buried at Ricetown.

Appears in: Stewart’s Chapel Cemetery and Unnamed Cemetery (Smoke Rise).

Notable descendants:

  • Daniel McPherson (1801-1881), Elijah McPherson (1805-1864), and William Buckner “Buck” McPherson (1807-1880) - sons.
  • America McPherson Sanders (1826-1896) - daughter, buried at Ricetown.
  • Henry McPherson (1828-1883) - son, buried at the unnamed Smoke Rise cemetery.
  • Samuel McPherson (1831-1908) - plausibly a sixth child, buried alongside George and Nancy at Stewart’s Chapel.
