The man behind the Jackson House hotel at Blount Springs, born 1832, died 1912. Married twice - Matilda C. Morris in 1859, and Sallie Hoke of Greenville, South Carolina, in 1867. Sold a half interest in the hotel to Henry F. DeBardeleben around 1877, building the larger “New Jackson House” together before DeBardeleben sold his own interest back around 1879 to focus on his mining and furnace ventures. Died January 15, 1912, in Birmingham, after being struck by a streetcar the night before, at age 80; buried at Elmwood Cemetery alongside his adopted son Sparks Jackson (1875-1911) and a daughter, Nannie Jackson, who died in 1871 at around age three.
