Son of John Hanby. Helped his father build a mill and forge on Turkey Creek in 1827, purposely built for wheat. The forge later made horseshoes for the Confederacy, and also mined and sold coal. Killed by Union soldiers on April 19, 1865 - the same sweep (Wilson’s Raiders) that burned Bethel Church and the University of Alabama, and destroyed the Hanby mill and forge.
