Born 1786, died March 1826. Moved from Henry County, Virginia, to become a pioneer leader in Blount County, Alabama. Son of David Hanby (1745-1827) and Jane Dalton; grandson of Richard and Sarah Hanby, who immigrated from England to Virginia in 1733. Married Nancy Horn, with whom he had three children.
A delegate to Alabama’s Constitutional Convention of 1819 at Huntsville, and Blount County’s first senator to the state legislature. Buried at Hudson Cemetery.
The mill and post office on the Mulberry Fork carrying his name (1855-1866, 1870-1894) opened decades after his death, a measure of how established the family name already was locally. His birth year (1786) is close enough to John Hanby‘s (1774) to plausibly make them brothers, both sons of David Hanby - a real inference from the ages, not confirmed by any source found.
