Champion Mines

Place

Ground where John Hanby found a rich seam of brown iron ore in 1817. Named Champion in 1882, when Henry F. DeBardeleben and James Sloss bought the land and brought the L&N Railroad through - a development significant enough to help move the county seat from Blountsville to Oneonta in 1889.
