In the spring of 1817, Andrew Aldridge (also spelled “Alldridge”) discovered a volunteer apple seedling on his property, grown from seed brought from Tennessee. The tree became known locally as the Patriarch Apple Tree and was still alive and cared for as of George Powell’s 1855 “History of Blount County.”
