A real, named river-shipping point on the Mulberry Fork near Sapp Ford and Sapp Crossroads, in the Ricetown vicinity, labeled on the 1895 USGS topo quad. George Powell’s 1855 “History of Blount County” describes shipping lime to Mobile via flatboat as theoretically possible “at ‘Baltimore’ or opposite Sulphur Springs,” while noting the profitability of the lime trade there was “questionable.”
This is very likely the ford serving Old Baltimore, a short-lived 1820s river town about six miles west of Blount Springs, confirmed directly on the period USGS topo quad. The same Powell passage describing lime shipped “at Baltimore” most likely refers to this exact landing.
