Named as proprietor of the Blount Springs resort hotel in an 1880 advertisement in the Memphis Daily Appeal - six years after the hotel opened in 1874 under manager W. C. Morrow. Whether Towner owned the property outright or operated it under lease isn’t established; by 1887 ownership had passed to The Blount Springs Co.
