History Glossary

Col. Fitzhugh

Person

A railroad engineer and close friend of Col. J.F.B. Jackson. Built the large house still visible north of downtown Blount Springs from US 31 in 1877, so Jackson’s wife and three daughters would have a proper home while he was away on business - often mistaken for the hotel itself, though it faced the old Stagecoach Road, not the railroad. Still in the same family nearly 150 years later.

Appears in: Blount Springs.
