Born 5 June 1840, died 5 March 1919, on Thacker’s Creek, Blount County - farmer, potter, leathersmith, blacksmith, Confederate soldier, and Justice of the Peace. His family’s land and name are directly tied to the real Swann Covered Bridge, originally slated to be called the Joy Bridge and renamed in the family’s honor at a November 1933 dedication dinner. His son, Thomas Clark Swann, also became Justice of the Peace and farmed the same land; Thomas’s widow, Lula Swann, signed over the right-of-way for the bridge in 1933.
