Saturday, October 3: Hayden Day, Corn Maze Opening and Oktoberfest in Cullman

Hayden Day, the corn maze opening and Cullman Oktoberfest top a busy Saturday in west Blount and nearby. Here is what is happening, with hours and addresses.

Saturday, Oct. 3 events: Hayden Day 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Corn Maze opens 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Cullman Oktoberfest, Birmingham Greek Festival 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Saturday is a full one. Hayden Day is in town, the West Blount Corn Maze opens for the season, and there are big festivals in every direction. I’ll be at Crossroads Baptist Church for my son’s football game, but I’m planning to get to some of the other events too. Here’s what’s going on, starting close to home and working outward.

The weather: As of Friday evening, the National Weather Service has the morning mostly dry, with a high near 86. There’s about a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., and rain gets more likely Saturday night and Sunday. That’s a good window for the morning events. If you’re heading out in the afternoon or evening, check the radar before you go.

Close to home

Hayden Day runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park by Hayden Town Hall, 5030 State Highway 160. The Town of Hayden hosts it every year on the first Saturday in October. Expect a car show and merchandise, arts and crafts, and food vendors. Questions go to Town Hall at 205-543-6881.

West Blount Corn Maze opens its 2026 season Saturday with opening-day hours of 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It’s at 2543 Rock Springs Road and runs weekends through October 31. More at westblountcornmaze.com.

The Great Pumpkin Patch at 288 Highway 45 in Hayden has been open since September 26 and runs through November 1. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekend admission is $20 for kids ages 2 to 15 and $10 for adults, and it includes a wagon ride out to the pumpkin field (with a pumpkin), the inflatable park and the petting zoo. There’s also a kids’ train ride.

A little farther out

Cullman Oktoberfest is the big one. It’s at Depot Park, 309 1st Avenue NE in Cullman, and it runs through Sunday. Admission is free all four days. Saturday starts early with a 5K and 10K at 8 a.m., and the Wiener Dog Race runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Music plays on multiple stages all day, along with stein relays, costume contests, brat eating and yodeling competitions. The kids’ contests (stein hoisting, costume and pretzel eating) are 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the main stage.

The Birmingham Greek Festival is in its 53rd year and wraps up Saturday at Holy Trinity-Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 307 19th Street South. Saturday hours are listed as 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Entry is free, and there’s Greek food, live music, dancing and cathedral tours.

If you’re making the drive to Decatur, Rock the South is at The Fields at Decatur, 3453 Gordon Terry Parkway. The festival was moved from June to October because of rain, and it’s now a four-day event, so Saturday is day three. Jessie Murph headlines Saturday, with BigXthaPlug, Stella Lefty and others, and Riley Green and Brantley Gilbert close things out Sunday. Tickets, parking and gate times are at rockthesouth.com.
