Coaldale was named for the Coaldale Brick and Mining Company, founded in 1887 in Warrior, Alabama, with its own post office open 1887-1901. The company produced red clay bricks; its street pavers are still visible today at Spring Hill College in Mobile, over 250 miles south. It’s labeled on the 1895 USGS topo quad near the Blount/Jefferson county boundary line, southwest of Reid Gap and Blackburn Mountain.
