Born 1834, died 1890 - a landowning family patriarch buried at Reid’s Gap Cemetery, one of two real candidates for who Reid’s Gap was named for. Married Mary Louisa Burns Reid on 15 December 1859. Their six children were Lewis Marion Reed/Reid, Lucy, Zachariah Buckner “Z.B.,” Drew, James Harris “Jim,” and Lugenia G. Reid McPherson.
Appears in: Reid’s Gap and Smith Ford and the Vaughn Bridge (his son Jim Reid is tentatively floated as part of the bridge-building crew).

- A long-standing question on this site now settled. The younger Reids buried at Reid’s Gap Cemetery, born between 1894 and 1911, were previously described here as “almost certainly grandchildren” without any confirmed line of descent. Five are now placed exactly: Alvin, Nancy L., Callie I., and Richard Leonard Reid are Drew’s children; Emory C. Reid is Jim’s.
- A correction to that same list. Sarah Elizabeth Yarborough, previously counted among that younger generation, is not a grandchild at all - she is Sarah Elizabeth Yarborough Reid (1874-1945), Drew’s wife. Two of George’s sons married Yarbrough women: Drew married Sarah Elizabeth, and Jim married Margaret Jane Yarbrough Reid (1876-1935), tying this family to the Yarbrough line twice over.
- Still unplaced: Bennie, Calvin D., Lemuel Audry, Ruby Gladys (Willoughby), and Ethel Lezora (Mitchell) Reid appear in none of the six children’s documented families. They are not George’s grandchildren by any record found - they belong either to a further generation or to one of the other unconnected Reid clusters in this county.
