Opened in 1958 on Highway 160, the same year the land that became Smoke Rise still appears as farmland and forest in aerial photos. Far more than a convenience store: groceries, hardware, gas, and, still today, a real meat-and-three deli counter (fried chicken, potato wedges, cobblers). A 1970s plan for a full Smoke Rise shopping center was designed around a rebuilt Logan’s; the mall itself was never built, and Logan’s needed no rebuilding to keep going regardless.
Profiled by writer Sean Dietrich (“Sean of the South”) in 2022 as a real, functioning general store, the kind that sells “a pound of roofing nails, a Stouffer’s lasagna, a squeegee, and a Baby Ruth, all in the same trip.” Full story at Logan’s General Store: A Highway 160 Landmark Since 1958.
