Joined the 12th Alabama Cavalry, Company D, 1st Battalion, Alabama Partisan Rangers, on 28 July 1862, and was promoted to Captain on 11 June 1864 - a real, earned rank. A period source, “Birmingham and Its Environs,” names his unit directly. Born in Blount County; died in Jefferson County, but buried back home.
