Elvester Cemetery

Place

Sits on Nyota Road - the cemetery’s own formal name, Elvester Baptist Church Cemetery, is the modern name for what the official Blount County Place-Name Gazetteer independently confirms was historically Nyota, an early coal-mining community. Capt. William Anderson White, who rose to captain in the 12th Alabama Cavalry during the Civil War, is buried here.

  • Capt. William Anderson White (25 Jul 1829 - 25 Aug 1893) - 12th Alabama Cavalry, Confederate captain.
  • Elizabeth “Eliza” McAnnally Goodwin (1844-1919).
