Ricetown Cemetery

Place

The burial ground for Ricetown, the farming community just west of Blount Springs covered on the live “Ricetown: Three Letters, Twenty Years” post. Home to four probable Revolutionary War veterans, including Charles Campbell (1757-1839), whose monument is inscribed “Pvt VA Cavalry, Revolutionary War.”

Notable graves:

  • Charles Campbell (1757-1839) - monument inscribed “Pvt VA Cavalry, Revolutionary War,” the oldest documented settler found in this area’s research.
  • Pvt. John David Files (1761-1838) and Jeremiah Benton Files I (1765-1848), both Revolutionary War-era veterans.
