Born 1844 in Tuscaloosa County to Matthew Duffee and Martha Allison Gillespie Duffee; died 1920. Known as the Hermit of Duffee’s Mountain at Blount Springs. Author of “Sketches of Alabama,” which includes a “Fruit Culture” chapter documenting early commercial apple growing in Blount County.
